We install complete systems, extend existing ones into extensions and loft conversions, replace radiators and valves, fit and configure controls, and clean systems that have stopped circulating properly. Most heating complaints we are called to are not boiler faults at all. Cold radiators downstairs, rooms that never reach temperature, banging pipes and a boiler that fires constantly are usually circulation, balancing or control problems, and they are fixable without replacing the appliance. New system work is designed around the property. Radiator sizing follows room heat loss, pipework is sized for flow rather than copied from the old layout, and the system is balanced and commissioned at the end so the design actually delivers. In detail ## Central heating work in detail The differences below are what determine whether a heating system performs for twenty years or complains from the first winter. ### System types Sealed pressurised systems with a combi or system boiler and no loft tanks; vented systems with a feed and expansion tank and a hot water cylinder; and unvented cylinder systems giving mains-pressure hot water to multiple bathrooms. Each has different filling, expansion and safety requirements, and each fails in a different way when neglected. We work on all three, and will tell you which is the sensible fit for the property rather than defaulting to whatever is quickest to install. ### Radiators, valves and pipework Panel radiators in single and double convector formats, towel rails in bathrooms, and low-surface-temperature options where required. Thermostatic radiator valves for room control, lockshields for balancing, and manual valves where TRVs are not appropriate, such as the room holding the main thermostat. Pipework in copper or plastic barrier pipe depending on the run, with correct clipping and expansion allowance so the system does not tick and bang as it heats. Materials are chosen for the route, not for speed. ### Controls and zoning Programmable and smart thermostats, cylinder thermostats, motorised zone valves, and separate heating and hot water zones so you are not heating the whole property to run one bathroom. Correct control setup is the cheapest efficiency work available on an existing system. We set the controls up with you at handover, because a control system nobody understands gets overridden and stops saving anything. ### Power flushing and system cleaning Power flushing uses a pump and cleaning chemicals to shift magnetite sludge and scale from radiators and pipework; a chemical clean and flush suits lighter contamination. Which one applies depends on system condition, and we say which after looking at it rather than selling the more expensive option by default. Cleaning is finished with inhibitor dosing and, where sensible, a magnetic filter that catches debris before it reaches the boiler. ### Extensions, loft conversions and new rooms Adding heat to a new room is a capacity question first: whether the boiler output, pipework and pump can carry it. Where they can, we extend and rebalance. Where they cannot, we say so up front instead of leaving you with a new radiator and a colder house. ### Residential and landlord work Domestic heating installs typically run over several days depending on property size, with heating and hot water restored at the end of each stage wherever practical. ### Commercial and industrial work Commercial heating and plant work is planned around site access and occupancy, with RAMS issued and works staged so the premises stay usable.
